The compact slope flyer with huge fun factor
Developed by Michael Boldt, the Firlefanz is anything but an ordinary slope glider. With a wingspan of just 500 mm and a flying weight of around 150155 g, it is a model you can take anywhereyet it delivers flight performance that belies its small size.
The Firlefanz made its major debut on the slopes of Fiss, where it impressively demonstrated just how much fun such a small model can be, even in wind speeds of around 70 km/h. While many larger models stayed grounded due to the challenging conditions, the Firlefanz showed exactly what it was capable of.
Despite its light weight, the Firlefanz penetrates the wind remarkably well. Its operational range can be further extended with up to 70 g of optional ballast. Throughout, it remains agile, responsive, and extremely maneuverable. It is not without reason that pilots often describe its roll rate as being "like a cordless screwdriver."
Special emphasis was placed on robustness and suitability for everyday use. The wings attach to the fuselage via a simple, flexible mounting system; in the event of a rough landing, the wing can detach, thereby protecting the structure from major damage. This makes the Firlefanz a model you can fly with confidence, even in demanding slope conditions.
The well-engineered wooden kit is quick to assemble and impresses with its high precision of fit. Even modelers with little experience in wooden construction can produce a flight-ready model in a short time.
